Willis James Rogers, Sr., 86, passed away on Wednesday, April 5, 2018 at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. Born on October 18, 1931 in Canton, Texas, he was a son of the late James Ross and Emma Irene Rogers. He was of the Baptist faith. At an early age, he proudly served our nation by joining the U.S. Marine Corps. He married Lavonne Sprinkle in June of 1985. Later, he spent 25 years as a truck driver.
Willis’ favorite pastime was to bowl. As a member of a bowling league, he would spend every Thursday night at the bowling alley. He liked to garden, watch old movies, listen to the oldies of the 30’s and 40’s and especially liked to watch Fox News.
Willis was a proud Veteran and loved to spend quality time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will be missed by all who loved him.
Willis James Rogers, Sr., is survived by his daughters, Becky Spalding, Brenda Hutchins, and Nancy Dickson; son, Willis James Rogers, Jr.; sister, Donna Marie Rogers Webber; brothers, Clarence, Deal Reed and Gary Leland Rogers; grandchildren, Eric and Tida Yonker; Kelly Yonker; Michelle, Thomas, Nickolas and Kourtney Porter; William Knuntson; Candy Porter; Robert Jordan; Lile and Makayla Lindsey; Paige Gill, Jennifer ROgers-Ficek, Willis James Rogers III; great-grandchildren, Ashley, Christopher and Monica Yonker; Tiffany, Alley, Kendal, Robert, Lavonna, Zack and Slater; a host of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lavonne, and a son.
The family will have a private service for Mr. Rogers at a later date.
