Amory
Willie Guy Myatt, Sr., 79, died on Monday, September 2, 2 013 at his home. Born April 14, 1934, he was a son of Purvis Connie, Sr. and Clara Bell Bee Myatt. A lifelong resident of Becker, he graduated Becker Schools in 1953 and joined the U.S. Air Force in 1954 and was a veteran of the Korean War. Stationed in Cheyenne, WY, he met his future wife, Joan Bryant whom he married January 1956. Guided by his faith and service to the Lord he was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for many years. He farmed with his father and worked in the garment plants, appliance repair, worked in maintenance at Gilmore Memorial Hospital and before his retirement was working for MTD in Verona. He continued farming with his brother after his retirement until his death. He enjoyed hunting, farming, spending time with his family, and spending his summers at his home in Maine.
A celebration of life service will be 11 a.m. Friday, September 6, 2013 at the Calvary Baptist Church with Bro. Rodney Waycaster officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. E.E. Pickle Funeral Home of Amory is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Joan Myatt of Amory; two daughters, Rebecca Joan Neely (Gary) of Trenton, TN and Clara Edith Smith (Paul D.) of Amory; one son, Willie Guy Myatt, Jr. (Lisa) of Amory; one brother, Naum Lee Myatt of Amory; 6 grandchildren, Shon Myatt, Trey Childers (Latisha), Ruth Neely, Joshua Neely (Kendra), Alonzo Myatt (Kristin) and Joseph Neely; two great grandchildren, Breana Childers and Houston Neely; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Purvis Connie Myatt, Jr. and Calvin A. Myatt; and by a granddaughter, Nicole Myatt.
Pallbearers will be Shon Myatt, Alonzo Myatt, Trey Childers, Joseph Neely, Joshua Neely, and Tony Harrison. Honorary pallbearers will be Butch Barrett, Mike Steele, Kenny Moffett, O’deen Adams, and Naum Myatt.
Visitation will continue from 9 a.m. until service time on Friday at the church.
