Muscle Shoals, AL – Willie Owen “Buck” Carter, 90, died on Thursday, November 3, 2011, at his residence. Born on July 6, 1921, in Monroe County, MS, he was a son of the late Elmer Lawrence and Annice Hamilton Carter.
Mr. Carter was a graduate of Greenwood Springs High School, Class of 1939. He honorably served in the US Navy for four years and with the Naval Reserve for six years. Mr. Carter married Maudean Helen Burrow on March 30, 1951, in Amory. Living in Muscle Shoals since 1956, he was a dealer with Snap-On-Tools for 40 years, retiring in 1996. Mr. Carter was a member of Woodard Avenue Baptist Church, the VFW, and was a Mason. He enjoyed reading, working in the yard, listening to Christian music, going to the farm, and visiting with family and friends in Mississippi.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Maudean Helen Carter, Muscle Shoals, AL; son, Thomas Owen Carter, Muscle Shoals, AL; nieces, Betty Ann Dabs, Barbara Jean Pennington, Donnie Flippo McCurley, Mitzie Flippo, and Rhonda Williams; nephew, Richard Flippo; and brother-in-law, Doyle Flippo.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Mable C. Dabbs and Jane C. Flippo.
A Celebration of Life Graveside Service will be held at 11:30 AM, Saturday, November 5 in Pearce Chapel Cemetery with Bro. Roger Akers officiating. Burial will follow in Pearce Chapel Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Bob and Bill Lancaster, Patrick Chism, Richard Flippo, Luke and Cecil Harris, Bert Mize, Danny Shields, Leon Crittenden, and John Lackey.
Visitation will be from 10 – 11 AM, Saturday at the funeral home. Everyone is asked to meet at the funeral home at 11AM to go in procession to the cemetery.
