William Thurston “Turk” Gray
Amory – William Thurston “Turk” Gray, 95, was reunited with his wife and grandson, and began his new life in Heaven on August 6, 2022. He was born on February 18, 1927, in Quincy, MS, to the late William Thomas Gray and Mary Atkins Gray.
Turk grew up in a large family in Monroe County and entered at a young age, into the United Stated Army, where he fought in WWII. One of the oldest surviving WWII Veterans in Monroe County, Turk was a patriot and was always kind to anyone he met. After serving, he married the love of his life, Geraldine Thompson, and they were blessed by God with three daughters. Turk was a great father, husband and provider and being in home surrounded by four women, he quickly mastered the art of being a good listener. At an early age, he enjoyed farming and later he focused on his main career. He worked for over 40 years for Coy Glenn at Glenn Manufacturing where he drove a truck. Turk was not afraid of hard work and he was a loyal employee. His daughters said they were blessed to have the most caring daddy in the world.
Turk believed in the Lord and was a member of Trinity Baptist Church. His faith meant the world to him and it was evident in his everyday actions and willingness to serve others. He liked to listen to Old Country Music, Hank Williams especially when he yodeled, and any Gospel Music. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with all of his family, including his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
A man with such a humble spirit and quiet demeanor, he had a strong faith and huge heart which blessed so many through the years. There is peace with his family as they know that he is in the presence of the Lord. He will be missed by all who loved him.
Left behind to treasure all the memories are his daughters, Judy Edwards (Jimmy), Amory, Beverly Wigginton (Randall), Smithville, and Lisa Owings (Ronnie), Aberdeen; grandchildren, Jill Johnson (Tim), David Wigginton, Chris Edwards (Christy), Heather Sartin (Brad), Jason Edwards (Stephanie), Allison Mathieu (Andy), Corey Fines (Jennifer); great-grandchildren; and a host of great-great grandchildren; sister, Mary Dietsch, Ohio; brothers, Jimmy Gray (Wanda), Houston, and David Gray, Dallas; and special friend, Earnest Mitchell.
