Amory – William Marion Owings, 85, died on Sunday, December 25, 2011, at Gilmore Memorial Regional Medical Center. Born on July 14, 1926, in Nettleton, he was a son of the late William Newton and Abby Potter Owings.
Mr. Owings attended Pine Grove School and graduated from Nettleton High School. He grew up farming with his family and was a self-employed electrician, carpenter and plumber. A God-fearing man who loved his church, Mr. Owings was a member of Amory Church of God of Prophecy. As an evangelist, he loved to preach the Gospel and minister to people. He was passionate about sharing God’s love with the Prison Ministry he and his wife did in Aberdeen and Okolona. Mr. Owings was the former treasurer of Pine Grove Cemetery. He enjoyed Gospel music and reflecting about days gone by with family and friends.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Cecile Langston Owings, Amory; nephews and nieces, Clark Hinson (Donna), Eureka Springs, AR, Linda Lively (John), Empire, AL, Mike Todd (Charlotte), Amory, James Todd (Lorett), Amory, Larry Todd, Nettleton, Lynn Todd (Peggy), Bigbee, Mary East, Evansville, IN, Joan Edwards (Frank), Memphis, and Doris Shackleford, Amory.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Agnes Owings Hinson a Frances Geneva Owings Todd.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10 AM, Tuesday, December 27 at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home with Bro. James Austin and Bro. James Gray officiating. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery. Pallbearers will be church members and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be Don and Glenda Guido.
Visitation will be from 5 – 8 PM, Monday at the funeral home.
