Amory – William N.”Bill” McKinney, 88, died on Sunday, September 9, 2012, at the Veterans Home in Oxford. Born on October 31, 1923 in Amory, he was the son of the late Graydon and Nancy Francis McKinney. He married Judy Ritter McKinney in 1968.
Mr. McKinney graduated from Amory High School, and received a B.S. Degree in Accounting from Mississippi State University, receiving Highest Honors. He honorably served his country in the United States Army during WWII as a 1st Lieutenant Ordinance officer. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Amory and served as a Sunday School Superintendant, Clerk of the Session, and Elder Emeritus. He was a Past President of Amory Rotary Club, Past President of Amory Chamber of Commerce, and Past Secretary of Mississippi Society of CPA. He worked several years as an accountant for Glenn Enterprises. He was also a founding partner, along with Kenneth Nail, of the accounting firm Nail McKinney, PA. Very passionate about his work, he was known as a great businessman. He enjoyed classical music, reading and studying history, and spending time with his family at their cabin at Nettleton Club Lake.
He is survived by his wife, Judy McKinney; sons, Dan McKinney, Amory, Bob McKinney, Cordova TN, John McKinney, Amory, and David McCollum, Kingsport, TN; 3 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Emily Butler.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 3PM, Wednesday, September 12 at E.E. Pickle Funeral Home in Amory with Dr. Tom Cheatham officiating. Burial will follow in Haughton Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Tommy Clements, Danny Jones, Larry Marett, Billy Rainey, and Larry Gaudelock. Honorary pallbearers will be Dick Millender and Soap Francis.
Visitation will be from 5 - 8 PM, Tuesday at the funeral home.
