William H. 'Bill' 'Hud' Hudnall

Sulligent – William Harden “Bill” Hudnall, 66, passed away Sunday, July 3, 2016, at his home in Sulligent, Alabama. Born August 6, 1949, in Aberdeen, he was the son of the late Samuel Burton “Sam” and Imogene Harden Hudnall.

Bill was raised and attended school in Aberdeen, MS, and married Deborah Kay Williams on June 2, 1984. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Aberdeen. Bill, better known as “Hud”, loved his family and friends dearly and cherished the time he spent with them. Hud lettered in football, baseball, basketball, and track at Aberdeen High School and was a member of the Little Ten Championship team (1965-1966) at Aberdeen High School. He went on to play both football and baseball at Delta State University where he received his Bachelors of Science and Masters of Science in Biology. He was a Biology Teacher and football and baseball Coach at Lee High School in Columbus, MS, and then found his place in the furniture industry as a Furniture Plant Manager at numerous industries including: Townhouse/Penthouse Furniture (Amory, MS), United Furniture (Amory, MS), Jackson Furniture (Cleveland, TN), River Oaks Furniture (Booneville, MS), Shaw Manufacturing (Okolona, MS), Sterns & Foster (Pontotoc, MS), Sealy Furniture (Salisbury, MD), Caye Furniture (Star, NC), and Alan White Furniture (Shannon, MS; Beaverton, AL; Sulligent, AL). Hud also did consulting work for several other manufacturers. He enjoyed playing golf, baseball, football, tennis, snow-skiing, flying, sight-seeing, telling stories of his past, and avidly watching Alabama football.

Hud was a man of great integrity, loyalty, trustworthiness, and kindness. Many of you may have known him from his dedication and fierce-competitiveness in his athletic background during high school and college years; some of you may have known him from the motivation he presented on the sidelines as a coach; others may have known of his unique style of leadership in the work-force; but all of us knew him for his ability to find good in everyone. Hud had such a unique ability to engage people with his soft-spoken demeanor, almost like a gentle giant. Those who knew him knew that he was a man of his word without exception. Hud treated everyone with respect and compassion, no matter their background or circumstance. He was a man of deep, personal faith in trying to help his friends, co-workers, family, and fellow man. Hud had such a story-telling ability that brought great joy to his family and friends, recalling wonderful memories of the past; he could remember the dates, times, and places that most of us would have lost over the years, but he remembered every minute detail. All who knew him are proud to say that it was an honor to have had this man as a part of their lives.

He is survived by his wife, best friend, and soulmate of 32 years, Deborah Kay Williams Hudnall, Sulligent, AL; daughter, Sarah Halle Hudnall, Sulligent, AL; nephew, Shane Williams, who was like a son, Aberdeen; great-nephew, Aiden Williams, who was like a grandson, Aberdeen; sister, Genann Gorrell (Mike), Stem, NC; niece, Brandie Gorrell (Will Viney), Columbia, TN; great nephew, Eli Viney, Columbia, TN; nephew, Truitt Gorrell, Raleigh, NC; sister Mary Beth Heying (Steve), St. Charles, MO; nephews, Cody Heying; Andrew Heying; and niece, Kelsey Heying, St. Charles, MO and brother-in-law, Joey Williams, Tupelo, MS.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Thelma Lily Brand, Will Brand, and James Nichols Harden; and his paternal grandparents, Emma Burton Hudnall and Joel Henry Hudnall.
