Amory - William Green Puckett, 87, passed away Monday, September 12, 2016 at Merit Health Gilmore Memorial Hospital in Amory. He was born in Hamilton, Alabama on July 28, 1929 to the late Clarence Ruben Puckett and Beatrice Boyett Puckett Scott.
Mr. Puckett attended Sipsy Fork and Greenwood Springs Schools. He married the love of his life, Dorothy Nell Irvin on December 19, 1948, and they were married for almost 64 years. She passed away on July 12, 2012. He was an employee of Holsom Bread Company, an Amory company. For 34 years, he worked for Walker Manufacturing Company where he took pride in his work. Mr. Puckett was an avid gardener. His gardens were well known in the community. Throughout his life, Mr. Puckett was respected by all who ever met him and especially those with whom he worked.
A member of the Hatley Missionary Baptist church, he affectionally was given the title of deacon emiterus. One of his greatest passions was teaching Sunday school every Sunday for many years. Reading the Bible daily, his never ending faith guided him throughout life. He never missed a chance to share his faith and guidance with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Mr. Puckett had many, many friends. In addition to his friends at work and church, some of his favorite friends were Gary and Debbie Johnson; Milton and Joyce Threadgill; Robert Chambers; and Billy Umfress, his roommate at Golden Living Nursing Center.
Mr. William Green Puckett is survived by a son, Jimmy G. Puckett (Charlotte), Amory; his grandchildren, Amanda Puckett Dehertogh (fiancé, Ben Harrelson), Ashlee Puckett Cash (Billy), Laura Puckett Evans (Jake), Emilee Puckett; great-grandchildren, Ella Grace Cash, Ricky Vade Cash, and Anna Kate Cash; one daughter-in-law, Julia Puckett; sisters, Wanda Blaylock (Ray), Greenwood Springs, Ruth Vann (Wade), Sulligent, Alabama, Willer Dean Spratlin, Hamilton, Alabama, Vinnie Lou Embrey, Oklahoma; brothers, Bobby Puckett, Detroit, Alabama, Rev. Edward Puckett, Sulligent, Alabama; special friends, Peggy Washington, Sherry George; and a host of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by son, Ricky Puckett; brothers, Wayne Puckett, Charles Puckett; sister, Lois Dove.
Funeral Services for William Green Puckett will be 2:00 PM, Saturday, September 17, 2016 at E.E. Pickle Funeral Home Chapel in Amory. Bro. Gary Self will be officiating. Burial will follow in Haughton Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Dennis Mitchell, Dean Irvin, David Irvin, Gary Johnson, Doug Puckett, Tim Puckett; Keith Vann and Milton Threadgill. Honorary pallbearers will be: Johnny Irvin, Anderson Ritter, Mark Puckett, Mickey Puckett, Donald Puckett, W.D. Doster, Roger Spratlin, Joel Puckett, Jerry Taylor, Roger Spratlin, and the Deacons of Hatley Missionary Baptist Church.
Visitation will be on Friday, September 16, 2016, from 5:00-8:00 p.m. and will continue on Saturday, September 17, 2016 from 9:00 am until the service hour at 2:00 p.m.
