William D. "Bill" Fallin

Amory, MS – William D. “Bill” Fallin, 73, passed away on Wednesday, December 9, 2015, at his residence. Born on March 22, 1942, in Washington, DC, he was a son of the late Wayland Haley and Rena Elsie Walls Fallin.

Bill was a graduate of Oxon Hill High School in Maryland and from High Point College in High Point, NC. On July 17, 1965, he married Kathie Marie Sturm. His love for dancing won her heart and affection. Bill’s career began in 1964 as a Cryptoanalyst with the FBI. Retiring in Washington, DC, as a Headquarter Section Chief, Bill held many roles with the FBI, including Special Agent in Charge. He had worked in Kansas City, Cleveland, Washington, DC, San Francisco, Knoxville, Butte, and Memphis. Having worked under J. Edgar Hoover, he was instrumental in criminal prosecutions in many multi-jurisdictional and multi-state investigations. He was a thorough diplomat, humble and not one to “keep score.” Bill was instrumental in liaising with local law enforcement everywhere he worked. With his employees appreciating his care and concern, they affectionately called him “Boss.”

Bill was baptized in the Baptist church. With many job transfers, he had been a member of the Presbyterian Church and the United Methodist Church. Having lived in Southern Maryland for 15 years, Bill was an active member of La Plata United Methodist Church as well as every church where he was a member, serving on the Caretaker Committee, Communion committee, the Administrative Board, and going on mission trips. Moving to Amory in 2013, he was a member of First United Methodist Church.

Respectful and loving, Bill was a great role model as a father-figure. He was athletic and approached life with a childlike enthusiasm and encouraged when coaching his children’s teams in basketball and soccer. One who never met a stranger, Bill was funny and a gifted storyteller. As a conservative he was open-minded and nonjudgmental. Bill was very sentimental, had a huge heart, and was passionate about the love of his life, his family.

One who loved all types of music, especially the 70’s, he enjoyed singing in Barber Shop quartets and listening to the Eagles. His favorite song was “Mustang Sally.” With great hands, Bill was gifted and able to fix anything. He served as President on the Antique Arts Association in Maryland. He was an amateur photographer, and enjoyed playing golf, drawing, sketching, woodworking, tinkering, and antiquing/junking.

Survivors include his wife, best friend, and soulmate, Kathie Fallin, Amory; sons, Curt Fallin (Leanne), Fairfax, VA, and David Fallin, Bartlett, TN; daughters, Diane Pickle (Robert), Amory, and Nancy Green (Chris), Reston, VA; sisters, Patti Sue Wagner (Ray), Maryland, and Barbara Miller (Dave), New Mexico; brothers, Wayne (Georgia), Roger (Donna), and Craig (Julie) Fallin of Maryland; grandchildren, Jake, Carly, Kara, and Wesley Fallin; Jack Lott and Ella Pickle; Caden, Rocky, and Henry Green; and several nieces and nephews.

A Gathering of Family and Friends will be from 10 AM – 12:30 PM, Saturday, December 12, 2015, at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home, Amory.

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 11 AM, Saturday, December 19, 2015, at La Plata United Methodist Church, La Plata, Maryland, with Rev. Ed Chance officiating.

A reception for family and friends will follow in the Fellowship Hall of the church.
