Smithville - Arvis Cagle, 75, died on Thursday, May 26, 2011, at Golden Living Center. Born on July 21, 1935, in Haleyville, AL, he was a son of the late James A. and Dovie Sarah Butler Cagle.
Mr. Cagle graduated from Phil Campbell (AL) High School, Class of 1953. Retiring after 34 years of service with Walker Manufacturing, he had worked as a welder and set-up man. Mr. Cagle was a member of New Bethel United Methodist Church. Good to everyone and always willing to help other people, he is remembered for sitting in his swing talking to folks and waving at people when they passed by his home. Mr. Cagle enjoyed fishing, deer hunting, and watching MSU football.
A great husband, father, and grandfather (“Pop”), he is survived by his wife of 55 years, Carlie Jean Cagle, Smithville; daughter, Lecia Cagle, Reform, AL; son, Jeff (Kathryn) Cagle, New Albany; sister, Edith Dixon, Adamsville, AL; brother, James (Inez) Cagle, Smithville; grandchildren, Sarah Kathryn and Sam Cagle, New Albany; sisters-in-law, Sue (Ben) Cagle and Jo Stanley; and special friends, Stephanie Stephens and Carol Fisher.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2PM, Sunday, May 29 at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home, Amory with Bro. Charles Coggins and Bro. Jesse Betts officiating. Burial will follow in Asbury Cemetery, Itawamba County. Pallbearers will be Lynn Holloway, Prentiss Wigginton, Robert Leech, C. D. Leech, Eulon Summerford, Tommy Cagle and Terry Cagle. Honorary pallbearers will be Anthony Stanley, staff of Community Hospice, staff of Legacy Hospice, and staff of Golden Living Center.
Memorials may be given to New Bethel United Methodist Church or First Baptist Church, Generations for Generosity Fund, New Albany, MS.
