Amory- Warner Junior Hester, 86, died on Monday March 26, 2012 at Oak Tree Plantation in Amory. Born on June 16, 1925, in Joppa, Alabama he was the son of Warren and Willie Shipp Hester.
On December 14, 1946 Warner married Laverne Riley of Nettleton, MS. Warner was a World War II veteran and served in the Navy for four years prior to marriage. Warner worked for Monroe County Electric, City of Amory and T.V.A. until he retired at 65. Warner was a born again Christian who attended and was a charter member of St. Andrews United Methodist Church. He lived a life of dedication serving his church and community. Warner was a gentle giant and a man after God’s own heart. He was a huge outdoorsman, spending his time hunting and fishing.
He is survived by two daughters Dale Leech (Johnny) and Debbie Palmer (Larry), Amory; grandchildren, John Leech (Christe), Tupelo, Collie Jo Hill (Stacy), and Brian and Lynn Palmer of Amory; great-grandchildren, Gabby and Mason Hill, Amory, and John Harris and Cate Leech, Tupelo; sisters-in-law, Pat Riley, Nettleton, Sue Riley, Lakeland, FL; brothers-in-law, Paul Riley (Frances), Nettleton, and Mitchell Riley, Amory; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by wife, Laverne; brothers, Walter (Audrey), Albert (Bert), Huey (Minnie) and Arlin of Hulaco, AL; sisters-in-law, Gertrude “Sis” Davis (Dick) and Louise Riley; brothers-in-law, Eugene Riley (Irma Mae), Thomas Riley, and Herman Riley.
A Celebration of the Life of Warner Hester will be held at 1 PM, Wednesday March 28, 2012, at St. Andrews United Methodist Church with Rev. Tim Sisk and Rev. Aubrey Boren officiating. Burial will follow in Haughton Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Billy Glasgow, Rayford Jones, Jim Dye, Rev. Gus Shelly, Thomas Griffith, Ralph Salters, James Burrow, and Ed Finley. Honorary pallbearers will be Hollis Parker, Paul and Mitchell Riley, members of the Crusader Sunday School Class, employees of Oak Tree Plantation, and Legacy Hospice.
Mr. Hester will lie in state at the church from noon until the service hour on Wednesday.
