Brandon – Wanda Harmon Lee, 83, died on Thursday, May 12, 2011, at Heritage House. Born on May 19, 1927, in Amory, she was a daughter of the late John and Inez Kendrick Harmon.
Attending Becker and Hatley Schools, Mrs. Lee graduated from Amory High School, Class of 1945. She was a member of the band and the basketball team. After graduation, Mrs. Lee moved to Memphis to attend Memphis School of Commerce and worked at Plough, Inc. Returning to Amory in 1947, she began working for Gilmore-Puckett Lumber Company. She and John Lee were married on September 10, 1948. Living in Amory until 1965, they moved to Charlotte, NC, where she worked at First Union National Bank. When her husband was transferred back to Memphis in 1970, Mrs. Lee worked at Leader Federal Savings and Loan. In 1987, they returned to Amory.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church, serving on the Evangelism, Family Life, and Pastor-Parish Relations committees, and the Administrative Board. She was a member of UMW, the Fidelia Club and Junior Auxiliary.
She is survived by a granddaughter, Amanda “Mandi” Lee Cobb (Kyle) Beckham, Greenville; great-grandchildren, John Kyle and Hannah Beckham; sisters, Miriam (Jimmie) Kirkpatrick, Becker and Faye Banks, Brandon; brother, Bob Harmon, Braselton, GA; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Lee; daughters, Patti Cobb and Ginger Lee; and brother, Douglas Harmon.
A Graveside Service will be held at 3 PM, Saturday, May 14, 2011, in Haughton Memorial Park with Rev. Glyn Wiygul officiating. Pallbearers will be Phil Roberts, Rick Gault, Buddy Bryant, Wes Kirkpatrick, and Frank Banks, II. Honorary pallbearers will be Virginia Harris, Karen Gault, Mary Lib Francis, Nita Ricketts, and Fann Bost.
Visitation will be from 1 PM until 2:45 PM at the funeral home. Everyone is asked to meet at the funeral home at 2:45 PM to go in procession to the cemetery.
