Walter Welford

Red Bay/Amory – Walter Welford, 76, passed away at Cullman Regional Medical Center on Thursday, August 8, 2024 and he met his Savior face to face. He was born on October 30, 1947, in Amory, MS to the late Walter G. Welford, Sr. and Mary Sue Stoddard Welford.

Walter grew up in Monroe County, MS and graduated from Amory High School. His family meant the world to him and he was close to his brother-in-law, Charles Bentley through the years. Walter was also a proud member of the Masons for many years. As a member of the Methodist Church of Red Bay, Walter enjoyed worshipping with his church family. He believed in God and was always humble in spirit. He was employed as a Structural Steel Draftsman for many years and after he retired he went back to work both maintenance at the Red Bay Hospital as well as some area HUD apartments.

Growing up, some of his closest friends were Butch Grissom, Phill Sullivan, and Al Wigul. Walter was musically talented and played in a band in his younger days with Butch Grissom and Phil Sullivan. He could play the guitar great and did so until he was no longer able to in his elder years. Walter was an easy going, simple, down to earth guy who had a great sense of humor.

He was mechanically inclined and enjoyed drafting as well as tearing stuff apart, learning the mechanics, and putting things back together. Walter enjoyed tinkering with cars and he found great satisfaction in repairing vehicles. He liked to listen to Old Rock and Roll music as well as folk and country music.

He was a one of kind who will be missed dearly by his family and close friends. Please keep his family in your thoughts and prayers at this time.

He is survived by his daughters, Melinda Frank, Hanceville, Al, Kerrie Wigley (Paul), Hanceville, AL; son, Lee Welford (Shawna), Vinemont, AL; grandchildren, Lauren Graham, Brooklyn Hudson, Alyssa Welford, Alexis Hudson, Jessica Hudson Lay, and Kayla Wigley Casey; great-grandchildren, Audrey Graham, Rylan Watson, Jhett Watson, Christopher Lay and Colby Lay; sister, Patricia Bentley (Charles); brother, Randy Welford (Brenda); niece and nephews, Charlene Bentley, Elizabeth Garcia (Jose), and Chris Bentley (Sherry).
