Greenwood Springs— Virginia Guin Thompson Knight, 81, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 27, 2018 in Tupelo, MS. Born in Guin, AL on April 14, 1937, she was a daughter of the late William Erby and Edna “Jackie” Shotts Holcomb.
Virginia grew up in Guin, Alabama, and attended Gin Elementary School; the family move to Moline, Illinois, where she attended Junior High. She then moved back to Alabama and attended Marion County High School, Guin, Alabama. A hardworking woman, she was talented with her hands, working both as a seamstress and in the furniture manufacturing industry. Her first job was at “Health-Tex” in Guin. She also worked 15 years at Amory Garment Factory, as well as working 20 years at Winfield Manufacturing where she was a Supervisor.
Virginia was Free Will Baptist and was a loving, caring and outgoing person. Her family meant a lot to her, and she was blessed during her lifetime with four children. She was a great mother and wife and was a former member of the Greenwood Springs Homemaker Club. She was a great cook, making a great roast beef and green beans. Her family said she loved to work in the vegetable garden and tend to her flower gardens as well. She grew beautiful tiger lilies and loved to be outside. In her free time, she enjoyed listening to Gospel and Country music, especially Conway Twitty. She will be missed dearly by all who knew and loved her. She leaves behind a legacy of great memories.
Virginia is survived by her husband, Clark Knight, Greenwood Springs; daughter, Linda Ford (Dale), Greenwood Springs; sons, Dr. Dexter Guin (Dennise), Colorado Springs, CO; Wesley Guin (Wanda), Guin, AL; Tim Guin (Sandra), Flat Rock, AL; grandchildren, Nikki Burton (John), Stacye Edgil (Matthew), Shelly Roberts (Coleman), Stephen Ford, Kylia Parks (Jason), Kristen Hutcherson (Jake), Justin Guin (Tiffany) ; Zack Guin; Ashley Lawrence; and Eli Guin; 13 great-grandchildren; one sister, Shelia Stovall (Bobby), Hamilton, AL; several nieces and nephews; and special friend, Edith Kitchens, Winfield, AL.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husbands, Howard H. Guin and R.V. Thompson; her brothers, James Dyer Holcomb, William “Bill” Holcomb; sisters, Edna Benton Mills, Ruth Black; and granddaughter-in-law, Desirae Guin.
A funeral service will be held at 10 AM Monday, October 1, 2018 at E.E. Pickle Funeral Home. Bro. Dale Ford, Bro. Stephen Ford, Bro. Bobby Robbins, and Mr. Nathan Terry will lead the service. Burial will follow in Durrett Cemetery. Pallbearers will include Stephen Ford, Nathan Terry, Zack Guin, Justin Guin, Eli Guin, John Paul Burton, and Jake Hutcherson. Honorary pallbearers will be Matthew Edgil, John Burton, and Coleman Roberts.
Visitation will be from 5-8 Sunday, September 30, 2018, at the funeral home.
