Virginia Brown Bowen

Amory – Virginia Dare Brown Bowen, 78, passed away on Sunday, May 29, 2016 at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo, MS. Born on October 18, 1937, in Itawamba County, MS, she was a daughter of the late George Washington Carver Brown and Annie Anderson Brown.

Virginia grew up in a large family, with five sisters and four brothers. At a young age, at the Tupelo Fair, she met the love of her life, Gordon O. Bowen. Together they were blessed with four children. She was a member of the Church of Christ and was an outgoing person who never met a stranger. Independent and caring, she worked for 30 years at Mueller Copper Tube to help support her family. While working there, she was a furnace operator who received many awards and recognition. Some of her close friends at work were Monzella, Judy, Tulan and Jimmie Griffin. Together they had wonderful memories over the years. Virginia was a funny, loving amazing woman who had a great big heart for others. She was rebel at times but her family always knew how much she loved them. Virginia was passionate about giving to the State Troopers Association and Le Bonheur’s Children’s Hospital. While she was relaxing, she enjoyed Country and Gospel music and watching Soap Operas. Of all accomplishments in life, she was most proud of her dedicated service of working for Mueller Copper Tube and above all, her family and all that they had become. She left a legacy of love and memories and she will be missed by all.

Survivors include her son, Gordon Bowen, Jr., (Amanda), Nettleton; daughters, Peggy Mills, Carla Parker and Brianna Bowen, all of Amory; grandchildren, Nikki Bowen King (Joey), Jon Mixon (Emily), Waylon Mixon, Jonie Hurley, James Parker, all of Amory; great-grandchildren, Jadus Rivers, Jaysun Hurley, Desiree King, Zoey King, and Kloea Bowen; brother, Jerry Brown, Nettleton; sisters, Pat McAfee, Amory, Janette Bowen, Amory, Ruth Hallmark, Topeka, KS, and Sheila Williams, Baldwin; a host of special nieces and nephews, including Diane Bowen and James Bowen.
