Virgil Larry Brannon, 78, passed away on Wednesday, August 10, 2016, at NMMC, Tupelo. Born on March 4, 1938, in Monroe County Tennessee, he was a son of the late Dink and Elsie Belinda Shell Brannon.
Virgil graduated from Madisonville, TN, High School, Class of 1956. After graduation, he joined the US Air Force, serving for four years at Holloman Air Force Base. On March 19, 1962, he married the love of his life, Shirley Darlene Smith. They were blessed with two daughters and a son. Virgil worked for Texas Eastern Pipeline, Wolf and Travis Electric Company, and retired from Duke Energy. Following retirement, he stayed busy working as a handyman.
Virgil was a Spiritual man. Very passionate about being outdoors and enjoying God’s beautiful creation, he loved camping, fishing, jug-fishing and cooking of the grill. Having a big heart, Virgil liked helping people. He enjoyed talking with people, photography, and woodworking.
Survivors include his daughter, Misty Mitchell (Sammy), Amory; son, Mike Brannon, Clearwater, FL; grandchildren, Archie “JR” Williams (Brandy), Columbus; Nick Williams, Amory; Allen Holloway, Vicksburg; Cassy Holloway, Amory; great-granddaughter, Emma Williams; Destiny, Bailey and Cooper Holloway; sisters, Clara Carmichael, Riceville, TN, and Retha Cunningham (Forrest), Sanford, FL; brothers, Thomas Brannon, Tellico Plains, TN; Roy Brannon (Sharon), Woodsfield, OH; Gale Brannon, Summerville, AL; Dwight Brannon (Joann), Woodsville, OH; a host of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife and soulmate, Shirley Brannon; a daughter, Debra Ann Howard; and a brother, Edwin Brannon.
His Funeral Service will be held at 2 PM, Sunday, August 14, 2016, at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home, Amory, with Bro. Robert E. Fowlkes and Dr. Lloyd Sweatt officiating.
Visitation will be 5 – 8 PM, Saturday, at the funeral home.
