Carrollton, AL – Violet A. Sandlin “Mama Ham” Hamilton, 94, went to be with Jesus on Friday, January 22, 2016, at her residence. She was four days shy of turning 95. Born on January 26, 1921, in Splunge, she was a daughter of the late Dallas and Nettie Simmons Sandlin.
“Mama Ham” attended Splunge School. She married Roy A. “Buster” Hamilton on September 9, 1938. Mama Ham worked at Gulf Ordinance during World War II & later at Amory Garment for 20 years. A lady of strong faith, she was a lifelong member of Splunge Baptist Church. Loved and respected by all, Mama Ham’s gift was touching the lives of everyone who met and knew her. She was the glue that held everything together. A product of the Great Depression, she was a unique and humorous yet serious lady who appreciated life. Passionate about her family, Mama Ham was an avid gardener who loved her flowers.
Mama Ham is survived by her son, Roy Lee Hamilton (Sandy), Carrollton, AL; granddaughters, Tammy Fretwell (Dennis), Laurel, MS, and Jennifer Hamilton, Madison, AL; grandsons, Zac Hamilton, Carrollton, AL, and Zed Perrigin (Stacy), Monroeville, AL; great-grandsons, Dusty Fretwell (Bethany), Derek Fretwell (Meagan), and Dalton Fretwell (Amber), all of Laurel, MS; 5 great-great-grandchildren; Dean Loftis (Frank), Columbus; sisters, Viola Harris, Hamilton, MS, Iva Lee Perkins (George), Aberdeen, and Mae Lavender, Ethelsville, AL; brother, Thomas Alton Sandlin (Yvonne), Albuquerque, NM; several nieces and nephews; special friend and caregiver, Sue Yarbrough.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of over 60 years, Roy A. Hamilton; and her brothers, Pete and Walter Sandlin.
Her Funeral Service will be held at 1 PM, Monday, Jan 25, 2016, at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home, Amory, with Bro. Derek Fretwell, Roy Lee Hamilton, and Bro. Lewis Coker officiating. Burial will be in Lann Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Zac Hamilton; Dennis, Derek, Dalton, and Dusty Fretwell; Zed Perrigin; Steve Knight; and Jerry Gilliam. Honorary pallbearers will be employees of Southern Care Hospice, who were so very loving and attentive to her needs. She dearly loved all of you, and we will always see you as our personal angels.
Visitation will be from 11 AM until the service hour Monday at the funeral home.
