Josie Viola Harris, 97, passed away Wednesday, December 7, 2016 at her residence in Hamilton, MS. Born in the Bethlehem Community, she was a daughter of the late Dallas Woodson Sandlin and Nettie Permellia Simmons Sandlin. She attended Bethlehem and Splunge Schools.
Viola was a faithful member of the Riggan Chapel Methodist Church where she was always taking care of the church both inside and outside.
She loved to refurbish the old antebellum homes and loved working with flowers in her yard.
She was hardworking and a very spirited character. She was the epitome of a wonderful caring southern lady.
Viola Harris is survived by a son, W.C.Harris, Jr. (Donna) Pearl, MS; Sisters: Vernie Mae Lavender, Ethelsville, AL, Eva Lee Perkins (George), Aberdeen; brother, Thomas Alton Sandlin (Yvonne), Albuquerque, New Mexico; Grandchildren: Dana Bowles, Emily Berry, Patti Baughman (Scott); W.C. (Trey) Harris, III; Great Grandchildren: Shelby Tew, Paisley Tew, Brody Berry, Allanah Harris, Carsyn Kate Baughman, Blake Baughman, Avery Bowles, Aubrey Bowles and a host of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Willie Cleo Harris Sr. ; sisters, Violet Hamilton and an infant sister; brothers, Pete and Boots Sandlin.
A celebration of life service for Viola Harris will be 11:00 AM, Saturday, December 10, 2016 at E.E. Pickle Funeral Home Chapel, Amory. Roy Hamilton will be officiating. Burial will follow in the Lann Cemetery in the Splunge Community. Pallbearers will be Trey Harris, Scott Baughman, Wayne Perkins, and David Perkins.
Visitation will be from 9:30 - 10:45 AM, Saturday, at the funeral home.
