Becker - Verla Frederick Arnold , 89, passed away on Wednesday, March 4, 2015, at her residence. Born on March 3, 1926, in Smithville, she was the daughter of Claude and Lizzie Mae Price Frederick.

She moved to Becker in 1930 where she graduated from Becker High School in 1944. She married Fred Dewey Arnold, Sr. in 1948 and they were happily married for 47 years until he passed in 1995. She worked in the garment industry and later was employed by Dr. John A Murfee. With nursing as her passion, she became a License Practical Nurse and worked for 40 years and she retired when she was 80 years old.

She was an excellent cook and was known for her homemade cakes, which she lovingly made often as gifts to family and friends. She loved old country music and working in her flower garden. She had an infectious laugh, and a sense of humor that was loved and recognized by all who knew her. She was a great mother, aunt, neighbor and friend. She was loved by all who had the honor and privilege of being a part of her life. The family wishes to give a special thanks to Gentiva Home Health, Julie, and caregivers, Janet Williams and Tiawana Kinsey.

Survivors include her son, Fred Dewey “Freddie” Arnold, Jr, Becker; nieces, Debra Banahan, Emily Moody, Linda Maxey, and Nancy Birmingham; great-niece, Renea Birmingham; great-nephews, Brad, David, and Mark Birmingham; special friends, Betty Kinsey and Iris Hester Steele.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, Bill Birmingham; sister, Louise F Chamberlain and husband John Chamberlain; daughter-in-law, Lora Wren Arnold; nephew, Wayne Birmingham.

A Funeral Service will be held at 1:30 pm, Sunday, March 8, 2015 E. E. Pickle Funeral Home, Amory with Rev. Sammy Washburn officiating. Burial will follow in Haughton Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Billy Kirkpatrick, Howard Moon, David Birmingham, Mark Birmingham, and John Banahan. Honorary Pallbearers will be Steve Sullivan.

Visitation will be from 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm, Saturday, March 7, 2015 at the funeral home.

Memorial may be given to Greenbrier United Methodist Church, PO Box 128, Becker, MS 38825.
