Velma Bryant

Amory- Velma Mc Elvin Bryant, 93, died Saturday, October 24, 2015, at her residence in Amory. Born June 2, 1922 in Deport, KY, she was a daughter of late John and Minnie Irving Mc Elvin.

Velma attended school in Greeneville, Kentucky. She went to work at a young age and was a cook in the Restaurant Profession. On December 21, 1941, she married the love of her life, Herbert J. Bryant. She was a loving mother who loved life, loved people and was very easy to talk to about anything. She was a faithful member of Bethel Apostolic Church and she loved the Lord. The most important things in her life weren’t things, they were her close friends and family. She was a humble woman whom loved to serve the Lord. One of her closest friends was Rodney Collier and she cherished her Pastor, Brother Stanley Blaylock. Velma was a giving person. Every Rail Road Festival in Amory, one could find Velma working hard at the booth for her church. Thousands of people enjoyed the famous Bethel Apple Fritters and Velma helped make that happen as she was a talented Apple Fritter cook. She enjoyed listening to Gospel Music and will be missed dearly.

She is survived daughter, Peggy Pugsley (G.W), Hatley; son, Farrell Bryant, Millport, AL; 12 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews; special friends, Rodney and Fay Collier, Brother Stanley Blaylock.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Hebert J. Bryant; a son, Herbert Ray Bryant; a grandson, Christopher Blaylock; a granddaughter, Reva Herrich.

A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 pm, October 28, 2015 at E.E. Pickle Funeral Home with Bro. Stanley Blaylock officiating. Burial will follow in Haughton Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Scott Pugsley, John Parker, Andrew Blaylock, Kerry Stanford, Roy Foster, and A.D. Johnson.
