AMORY - Velda L. Addington Stoddard Hetland, 85, died Friday, April 27, 2012, at Columbus Baptist Hospital Golden Triangle. She was born April 27, 1927 in the Bethlehem Community of Monroe County to Leaner Kennedy and Elzie Addington. She was a graduate of Smithville High School, where she enjoyed playing basketball. She worked for Amory Garment Company for many years. She married Roy Stoddard in Feb. 3, 1947. She married James Hetland Nov. 27, 1984. She was blessed with many talents; a pianist, singer, writer, seamstress and an artist. Her children and grandchildren were blessed to have a mom and grandma who served God. She attended Bethel Apostolic Church and Cornerstone Family Fellowship both in Amory.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at E.E. Pickle Funeral Home in Amory with Bro. Malcolm Tidwell and Bro. John Ward officiating. Burial will follow in Haughton Memorial Park.
She is survived by her sons, Rodney Stoddard (Pat), Larry Stoddard and Bobby Stoddard, all of Amory; stepsons, Tommy Hetland (Kay) of Montrose, Ark., and Ashley Hetland (Pamela) of Richmond, Maine; sister, Bernice Roberts (Charles) of Phoenix, Ariz.; four grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Dorothy Addington of Amory; dearest friend, Linda Reich of Amory; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Roy Stoddard and James Hetland; brothers, John Arthur, Dow, Olen and Dexter Addington; sisters, Velmer and Dorothy Addington, Zora Mae Hughes and Wonnie Plunkett.
Pallbearers will be Ricky Stoddard, Kenny Stoddard, Joe Hughes, Phillip Addington, Gilbert Addington, Ronal Reich and Steve Reich.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
