Smithville – Vedie Kendrick Wardlaw, 81, died on Wednesday, November 3, 2010, at her residence. Born on May 26, 1929, in Amory, she was a daughter of the late Luzern and Lillie Barrett Kendrick.
Mrs. Wardlaw attended Becker schools and worked as an inspector at Red Kap for 20 years before retiring. A prayer warrior, she was a member of First Assembly of God Church. Loving and family-oriented, Mrs. Wardlaw cherished family time and cooked dinner for her family every other Sunday. Full of life, she enjoyed Country Bluegrass and Gospel music, gardening, shopping, traveling, cooking, crocheting and needlepoint. Lovingly, her family called her the ultimate June Cleaver type of mother.
She is survived by a daughter, Judy Herring, Smithville; son, Kenny (Sheila) Wardlaw, Amory; sister, Mary Ruth Taylor, Vernon, AL; grandchildren, Nicholas (Carolyn) Wardlaw, Decatur, AL, Maegan Wardlaw, Amory, Cynthia (Steve) Stanford, Smithville, Candy (Rodney) Gillentine, Nettleton and Chris (Brandy) Herring, Smithville; great-grandchildren, Courtney Leveck, Colorado Springs, CO, Cody, Ryan and Dylan Gillentine, Nettleton, Xander Herring, Smithville and Lucy Wardlaw, Decatur, AL; several nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Mary Newell, Oxford. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert Wardlaw on November 3, 1994.
A Celebration of Life service for Vedie Wardlaw will be held at Noon, Saturday at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home, Amory with Bro. Danny Crane officiating. Burial will follow in Young Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Steve Stanford, Rodney Gillentine, Matt Newman, Jeff Basham, Justin Laveck, and Cody and Ryan Gillentine.
Visitation will be from 5 – 8 PM, Friday at the funeral home in Amory.
