Tony Ellis Thompson
Amory – Tony Ellis Thompson, 61, passed away at his residence in Amory, MS on Wednesday, July 19, 2023. He was born on October 20, 1961, in Huntington, West Virginia to the late Hammy Willard Thompson and Geneva Irene McCord.
Tony grew up in Tennessee in a large family with a total of 7 siblings. He graduated from Atwood High School and attended some Vocational Tech courses through the years. He married Anissa Adams Thompson on June 26, 1998. He was a hard worker and wasn’t afraid to put in the hours. He worked at All-Steel Manufacturing, at Lane Furniture, at Wilbert and Clark Vault and lastly at Ashley Furniture in Saltillo. He took great pride in doing a good job for his customers and employers.
He was a huge hearted man, funny, and he would do anything for someone in need. He believed in God and attended Amory Church of Christ. Tony enjoyed being outside, fishing, camping and bird watching and painting. He was meticulous when it came to mowing his yard and he took pride in keeping a nice home for his family and friends to visit. Tony often times walked across the street to Mr. Hall’s House to talk shop, look at antiques, and just solve the world’s problems. And one of his favorite things to do was to spend hours with Greg Burdine, his best friend, watching the neighborhood.
Anything to do with racing was also one of Tony’s favorite past times. He like to watch racing on tv on Sundays, traveling to Taledega and Atlanta races, and his favorite driver was Dale Earnhart. He also watched his favorite football team, the Dallas Cowboys, on tv. His favorite past time was to ride on country roads and see God’s country.
Tony was a good man, who would help others in need if he was able. Of all his accomplishments in life, it is certain that he was most proud of his son’s graduation and the man he had become. His family and friends will miss him dearly.
He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Anissa Adams Thompson, Amory; son, Cody Allen Reese Thompson, Amory; step-daughter, Macey Nicole Jung (David), San Antonio, TX; granddaughter, Amelia Katherine Jung, TX; sisters, Vanessa Irene Jones, AL, Shelia Geneva Ramsey (Keith), TN; brothers, Raymond “Ray” Lynn Thompson (Dawn), NC, Johnny Wayne Thompson (Becky), SC, and William Christopher “Chris” McCord (Deanna); several nieces and nephews.
