Bro. Tommy Earl Whaley

Amory – Bro. Tommy Earl Whaley, 67, died on Wednesday, December 11, 2013, at University of MS Medical Center. Born on March 14, 1946, in Columbus, he was a son of the late Lem and Dellie Mae Hanson Whaley.

He went to New Hope High School and received his Bible degree from Liberty University. A Godly, loving and genuine man, Bro. Tommy was the Pastor at Bigbee Baptist Church over twenty years and had pastored at others churches in Alabama and Mississippi. Guided in life by the Lord and His Word, he enjoyed preaching God’s Word and ministering to people. A compassionate and giving family man, Bro. Tommy enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His hobbies were doing yard work, watching football, bowling, and listening to Southern Gospel.

Survivors include his soul mate, Gloria E. Harris, Fayette, AL; daughters, Kim Norris (Mitch) and Becky Gregory (Paul) of Amory; grandchildren, Leah Beth Gunter and Joshua Norris; Rachel Sargent; Jessica and Amanda Segovia; Anna Beth Harris; and Austin and Emjaii Gregory; great-grandchildren, Briley and Sydney Sargent; Rynn and Rivers Gunter; Kylie and Colton Gregory; and Caylie and Adam Harmon; brothers, Shirley “Doc” Whaley, Vernon, AL, and Lee Wayne Whaley, Millport, AL; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Tommy E. Whaley, Jr.; sister, Mayzell Belue; and 9 brothers.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 AM, Saturday, December 14 at Meadowood Baptist Church with Bro. Milton Martin and Bro. Jim Harrington officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Mitch Norris, Paul Gregory, Joshua Norris, Brandon Sargent, Thad Gunter, Buddy McCullough, and Randy McCool. Honorary pallbearers will be the men of Bigbee Baptist Church.

Memorials may be given to Gideon’s International, PO Box 661, Amory, MS 38821; St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105; or a charity of choice.
