Smithville, Miss.—Ezra “Tommy” Thompson, 85, died on Saturday, August 10, 2013 at his home. Born June 8, 1928 in Odessa, TX, he was a son of the late Ezra, Sr. and Dertha Thompson. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and was married to Bertie Lou Pickle and later to Judy Kuykendall. A member of East Amory Baptist Church, he formerly served as choir director and had served as choir director for the New Hope Baptist Church. Before his retirement, he worked for Kerr-McGee. His hobbies included camping, fishing, playing music and he especially enjoyed being with his family.
A Celebration of Life Service will be 2 p.m. on Monday, August 12, 2013 at the East Amory Baptist Church with Bro. Roger Akers and Bro. Jeff Smith officiating. Burial will be in the New Hope Cemetery. E.E. Pickle Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Judy Kuykendall Thompson of Smithville; two daughters, Brenda Eddy of Texas and Jacque Umfress (Jimmy) of Hatley; one son, Steve Thompson (Melissa) of Texas; 10 grandchildren; and 13 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 4 sisters; one brother; his first wife, Bertie Lou Pickle Thompson; and a grandson, Jamie Umfress.
Pallbearers will be Jeff, Jason, and Joey Umfress, Larry Kuykendall, John Bryce Kuykendall, and Ricky Williams. Honorary pallbearers will be Joseph Kuykendall, Reich Mattox, John Kuykendall, and members of his Sunday school class.
Visitation will be 4 until 8 p.m. on Sunday evening and will continue until 12:15 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home. The body will lie in state from 1 p.m. until service time at the church.
