Smithville – Thomas Herbert “Tommy” Lovern, 66, passed away on Tuesday, June 7, 2016, at North MS Medical Center. Born on July 6, 1949, in Amory, he was the son of Kathleen Bennett Lovern and the late James Herbert Lovern.
Tommy graduated from Smithville High School in 1967 and attended Itawamba Junior College. He loved history, watching all types of sports and old Rock and Roll Music. He was a member of Smithville Baptist Church. Tommy retired from True Temper Sports. A hard worker, he was known to say “must keep going.”
He is survived by his mother, Kathleen Lovern, Smithville; daughters, Wendy Calhoun, Amory; Laura Lovern, Amory; Chrissy and Cassie Lovern, Smithville; sisters, Glenda Hoots (Phil), Smithville; Judy Carpenter (Edsel), Smithville; grandchildren, Tanner Miller, Southaven; Haiden Calhoun, Walnut; great-grandchildren, Conner and Axel; cousins, Hilda Johnson, Stephina Fowlkes, Vincent Miles, Janet Dupree, Betty Sue Parker, Mary Gwen Lyle, Andy Sellars, Ethalene Stubbs; the mothers of his children, Gail Pickle and Linda Colbert; a host of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his grandparents: Bose and Fannie Lovern; Elmer and Cleo Bennett.
His Celebration of Life will be at 11 AM, Friday, June 10, 2016, E.E. Pickle Funeral Home, Smithville Chapel, with Bro. Wes White officiating. Burial will follow in Smithville Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Phil Hoots, Edsel Carpenter, Doug Fowlkes, Dwight Johnson, Vincent Miles, Mitch Lucas, Clint Hoots, Andy Sellars and Gerald Lovvorn.
Visitation will be from 5 - 8 PM, Thursday, and from 10 AM until the service hour, Friday, at the Smithville Chapel.
