Amory – Tommy Clements, 80, died on Friday, April 26, 2013, at his residence. Born on April 28, 1932, in Van Vleet, he was a son of the late William Ellis “Bill” and Elizabeth Carolyn Peden Clements.
During his senior year of high school, Mr. Clements joined the Army National Guard and was activated, honorably serving two years in the US Army during the Korean War. Returning to Houston, he graduated from high school and from Mississippi State University in 1956. On January 5, 1954, he married Bobbye Thompson. He worked in accounting and bookkeeping for 50 years in the heavy equipment business in the same building operating under the names of Dalrymple, Scribner, Allied and State Equipment Companies. After retiring at the age of 72, he became known locally as the “Vacuum Man,” when he began operating his vacuum service and supply business. Guided by his faith and family, Mr. Clements was very active at First Presbyterian Church, where he served as Deacon, Elder and as Treasurer for 50 years. Tommy was proud to have served as a regional and national delegate to the Presbytery General Assembly, and enjoyed singing the Old Hymns. A wonderful husband and provider who was very giving, he enjoyed his grandchildren, traveling, boating, water skiing, camping, and working in his shop. Mr. Clements was a Mason of the Houlka Lodge. He was passionate about Amory Food Pantry, Meals on Wheels, The Palmer Home, and French Camp Academy.
He is survived by his wife, Bobbye Clements, Amory; daughter, Betsy C. Bailey (Jim), Vicksburg; sons, Bill Clements (Jamie), Amory and Paul Clements (Nancy), Tupelo; grandchildren, Jason Clements, Amory, Megan C. Sanders (Chris), Virginia Beach, VA, Garrett Scott (Mandy), Bossier City, LA, Pete Scott, Wichita, KS, Dylan Scott (Caitlin), and Lindsey Turner (Dan), Tupelo; great-grandchildren, Christian Sanders, and Thomas Vance Scott; several nieces and nephews; and special friends, Andy and Connie Love.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Imogene Doss and Mary Elizabeth Turman.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:30 AM, Monday, April 29 at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home with Dr. Tom Cheatham officiating. Burial will follow in Masonic Cemetery. Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Andy Love, Danny Jones, and Larry Marrett. Honorary pallbearers will be Bud Harlow and Bobby Doss.
Visitation will be from 5 – 8 PM, Sunday at the funeral home.
