Amory- Tommie Ree Cantrell Moore, 89, died Saturday, March 16, 2013 in Oxford. Born January 30, 1924 in Monroe County, she was a daughter of the late George Thomas and Rose Ann Flippo Cantrell. She married Robert Lee Moore on April 9, 1945.
Attending school in Greenwood Springs, Mrs. Moore was a member of Pleasant Grove Methodist Church, but in her later years attended East Amory Baptist Church, where she loved attending Sunday school. During World War II, she was a supervisor at the Gulf Ordinance Plant in Prarie, and later retired from Amory Garment. Passionate about her family, she loved spending time with her daughter, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and her sister “Runt”. Very independent, Mrs. Moore lived as a widow for nearly 35 years. She enjoyed cooking for her family and friends, gardening, always canning and freezing plenty of vegetables.
She is survived by her daughter, Brenda Moore Hester (Billy), Oxford; sister, Wiona “Runt” Cantrell Hicks, Becker; granddaughters, Kimberly Hester Burt (David), Nettleton and Candace Hester Vasilyev (Scott), Oxford; great-grandchildren, Sr. Amn Tyler Lee Burt, Grand Forks, ND, Vivian and Alexander Vasilyev, Oxford, and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by a sister, Margaree Little, brothers, Leroy and Troy Lee Cantrell, granddaughter, Christy Ann Hester.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held Tuesday, March 19, 2013, 11 A.M. at E.E. Pickle Funeral Home in Amory, with Bro. Roger Akers officiating. Burial will follow in Easter Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Scott Radin Vasilyev, David Allen Burt, Donnie Allen, G.T. Cantrell, Eddie Guin, and Gary Wouldridge. Her great grandson, Sr. Amn Tyler Burt, who is currently honorably serving his country, will serve in his absence, as honorary pallbearer.
Visitation will be Monday, March 18 at the funeral home, from 5 P.M. - 8 P.M.
