Smithville – Tommie Edward Best, Sr. 81, died on Saturday, September 12, 2015, at North Mississippi Medical Center, Tupelo. Born on March 5, 1934, in Becker, he was a son of the late Marion Harris and Jaylee Blackwood Best.
Mr. Best attended High School in Aberdeen. He went to work early in life and was a talented man. He worked at Pullman Couch and worked for the Monroe County Electric Association. He married Alice Montgomery on June 4, 1952 and together they raised two children. He loved the Lord and he served as a Pastor for Providence Sovereign Grace Baptist Church for 30 years. He was a determined man and went back to school to get his GED at the age of 47. Tommie loved to go hunting, especially coon hunting. He also liked raising horses, mules, goats and hunting dogs. His closest friends were his fellow church members and his hunting buddies.
Survivors include his son, Edward Best, Jr. (Theresa), Smithville; grandchildren, Kelly Young (Britt), Smithville, Stacey Upton (Mathew), Smithville; Great-Grandchildren, Alyssa and Alex Mackey, Addison and Brayden Upton, and Bailey Young.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Alice, daughter, Melissa Ann Best; brothers, Raymond, Allen, Paul and Roy Best; sisters, Julie Pace, Icey Jackson, Margeen Sanderson, and Kathleen Montgomery.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, September 14, at E.E. Pickle Funeral Home, Amory with Bro Bobby Amos and Bro. Wes White officiating. Burial will follow in Harmony Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jim Best, David Best, Claude Jackson, Richard Montgomery, Daniel Montgomery, and Mark Parham. Honorary pallbearers will be Charles Fikes and W.D. Whitehead.
Visitation will be from 5 – 8 PM, Sunday, September 13, 2015, at E.E. Pickle Funeral Home, Amory.
Donations in lieu of flowers may be given to the Harmony Cemetery Fund, 50015 North Harmony Road, Amory, M.S., 38821.
