Thurman Tucker

Wren – Thurman J. Tucker, 79, died on Wednesday, March 23, 2011, at North MS Medical Center, Tupelo. Born on September 19, 1931, in Midnight, MS, he was the son of the late Elvie R. & Lillie Mae Richardson Tucker.
Mr. Tucker was a graduate of Minter City (MS) High School, Class of 1952. Prior to graduation, he proudly served his country during the Korean Conflict in the US Navy aboard the USS Philippine Sea. In 1973, he retired as a Captain of Greenwood Fire Department. Mr. Tucker moved to Amory in 1976 where he was the owner of Sonic Drive-Ins until retiring in 2007. He was an ordained Deacon and a very active member of Central Grove Baptist Church and a former member of Meadowood Baptist Church and Immanuel Baptist Church, Greenwood. At each church, he had served on the Sanctuary Building committee. He believed in working hard and enjoyed working side-by-side with his family. Mr. Tucker enjoyed watching old Westerns on television, listening to Gospel and Country music, building things with his hands and repairing things. He was a member of Independent Order of Odd Fellows and was a 50+ year member of the MS Firefighters Association.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Aubrey Dean O’Neal Tucker, Wren; daughter, Kathy G. (Pete) Zanier, Amory; sons, Larry A. (Julie) Tucker, Baton Rouge, LA, and Terry J. (Lisa) Tucker, Wren; sisters, Elouise Goss and Audis Lee (Nathan) Goss, Minter City, Frances (Marion) Tackett, Sparta, TN, and Donna (Ed) Bowers, Tupelo; brother, Bob (Diane) O’Neal, Tupelo; grandchildren, Memry Dake, Lauren Tucker, Aaron (Heather) Zanier, Morgan Tucker, Brandon Pitre, Jon-Austin Tucker, Kamryn Tucker, and Tyler and Kaylee Hartung; great-grandchildren, Rhett and Grant Dake; and nieces and nephews, Jimmy Goss, Patsy Noah, Gary and Ronnie Goss, Sarah Peden, Kim McElroy, Brad Tackett, James and Davis O’Neal, Christy Filgo and Jane Stanford.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 4 PM, Friday, March 25 in Central Grove Baptist Church with Bro. Dennis Smithey and Bro. Bob O’Neal officiating. Burial will be in Wren Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Aaron Zanier, Morgan Tucker, Brandon Pitre, Jon-Austin Tucker, Jimmy, Gary and Ronnie Goss, Brad Tackett, and James and Davis O’Neal. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the John Langford Sunday School class at Central Grove Baptist Church.
Visitation will be from 2:30 PM until the service hour on Friday at the church.
