– Thomas E. “Tom” Brown, 78, died on Thursday, January 19, 2012, at Gilmore Memorial Regional Medical Center. Born on February 19, 1933, in Lucy, TN, he was a son of the late William David and Martha Jane McKee Brown.An outstanding all-sports athlete, Tom graduated from Bartlett, TN, High School, Class of 1952. He honorably served in the US Army during the Korean War. Tom married his high school sweetheart, Wynelle Sullivan, on September 8, 1953. For 22 years, he worked as a general supervisor at the Ford Assembly Plant in Vermilion, OH. Moving to Amory in 1981, he was a member and a Deacon of Meadowood Baptist Church. A strong and compassionate man, Tom’s life was guided by his faith, family and friends. When it came to children’s and grandchildren’s activities, he was always there to support them. An avid sports fan, he also enjoyed woodworking, making wire-craft jewelry, and listening to Gospel and Bluegrass music.A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2 PM, Sunday, January 22 at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home with Dr. Lloyd Sweatt and Bro. Tommy Buchanan officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow in New Hope Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Nathan Brown, Jon Pounds, Jacob Pounds, Andy Rice, Clay Hinds, and Cody Brown.Visitation will be from 5 – 8 PM, Saturday at the funeral home.He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Wynelle “Nell” Brown; daughters, Debbie Pounds (Johnny) and Terrye Rice; son, David Brown, (Tammy), all of Amory; sister, Dolly Deen, Brighton, TN; brothers, Odis Brown (Ginny), Millington, TN, and Glenn “Brownie” Brown (Jo), Birmingham, OH; mother-in-law, Inez Sullivan, Amory; brother-in-law, Steve Sullivan (Elizabeth), Becker; grandchildren, Nathan Brown, Jon Pounds, Rachel Pounds, Jacob Pounds (Courtney), Andy Rice (Blair), Becky Pounds (Clay Hinds), and Kara, Kayla, Cody, and Connor Brown; great-grandchildren, Marty Joe Fowlkes, Cayleigh Beth Pounds, Magnolia Joon Hinds, and Chloe Harper Rice; a host of nieces and nephews; and many special friends.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Hilda Edwards; and brothers, Major, Everett “Bo,” and Hoyt Brown.Memorials may be given to Meadowoood Baptist Church, PO Box 535, Amory, MS 38821 or to Lakeview Baptist Church, 591 Ferndale Ave., Vermilion, OH 44089.
