– Thomas Henry “Tommy” Southard, Sr., 83, died on Thursday, October 20, 2011, at North MS Medical Center. Born on August 31, 1928, in Amory, he was a son of the late John Hughes and Ada Mae Strickland Southard.Mr. Southard was a graduate of Hatley High School. On May 14, 1948, he married his high school sweetheart, Lula Faye Nix. Mr. Southard had worked at Holsum Bakery for 17 years, at Aberdeen Plastic Plant, and with True Temper Sports for 11 years. He was Baptist. A great and wonderful husband, father, and grandfather, his life revolved around family. For the last three years, he faithfully cared for his wife’s needs as her health declined. A hard-worker, Mr. Southard enjoyed painting their home and mowing. He also enjoyed talking, as he never met a stranger, listening to Gospel music, watching Gospel Channel 15, working with his hands, and carpentry work.He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Lula Faye Southard, Amory; daughters, Pat Stoddard (Rodney), Amory, Kathy Vaughan (Daniel), Monticello, GA, and Sandie Plunkett (Ken Chism), Becker; sons, Bob Southard, Amory, Donald Joe Southard, Aberdeen, and Thomas Hugh Southard, Jr. (Janice Birmingham), Aberdeen; 14 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, two brothers, and two grandchildren.A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 4 PM, Saturday, October 22 at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home with Bro. Grady Davidson officiating. Burial will follow in Hatley Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Shane Gray, Richard Stoddard, Kenneth Stoddard, Jason Vaughan, Adam Vaughan, and Terry Thomas.Visitation will be from 5 – 8 PM, Friday at the funeral home and 3 PM until the service hour on Saturday.Memories and condolences may be shared with the family at eepicklefuneralhome.com.
