Greenwood Springs – Thomas Emmett Renfro, Jr., 87, died on Saturday, July 2, 2011, at NMMC, Tupelo. Born on February 24, 1924, in Monroe County, he was a daughter of Cora Atkins and Thomas Emmitt Renfro, Sr.
Mr. Renfro was a graduate of Greenwood Springs High School, Class of 1941. After graduation, he honorably served in the US Marine Corps during World War II in the Pacific Theatre. Mr. Renfro worked in the family sawmill business, farmed during the Summers, and retired as a welder with Babcock and Wilcox. He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church. A good husband and father, Mr. Renfro loved his family and was a very giving person. He was a member of the American Legion, enjoyed listening to Gospel music and watching wrestling on television. A hardworking man, he enjoyed being outdoors cutting pulpwood and timer.
Survivors include his wife of nearly 62 years, Jean Miller Renfro, Greenwood Springs; daughter, Jody Jones, Pontotoc; son, Tommy Renfro (Karen), Greenwood Springs; granddaughter, Amanda Hill and great-grandson, Shawn Renfro, Greenwood Springs; and special friends, Jackie McNeese, Roger Colburn, and Gene Tipton. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Phil Jones.
A private family graveside service was held on Sunday, July 3 in Sartor Cemetery.
