Thomas “Tommy” A. Ford
Thomas A Ford, 75, met his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ face to face on Saturday December 21, 2024, in Amory, Mississippi. Tommy was born June 11, 1949, in Tupelo, Mississippi to the late Herman Ford and LaRue Wilson Ford.
Tommy was raised in Monroe County in a loving family with three sisters on the family farm where he helped his father with the farm. He graduated from Smithville High School where he excelled in all sports and was captain of his football team. A very likable man, he was voted the most athletic and most popular. After graduation from high school, he selflessly served in the U.S. Navy.
He married the love of his life, Gail Harkey Duncan, in 1970. They had 54 wonderful years together and shared many great memories. They were blessed with a precious son, Ty. Tommy attended college at IJC and Mississippi State University. After college, he was employed by Scribner Equipment Co., True Temper Sports and retired from Tronox Chemical. He was a hard worker and a great provider for his family.
Tommy is described by those who knew him best as a Godly man who lived out his faith. He was a member of Central Grove Baptist Church as well as a member of Smithville Baptist Church. He was ordained as a deacon and served as Chairman of the Deacons and taught Sunday School classes. In his later years, he was a member of Central Grove Baptist Church where he taught Sunday School.
In his downtime, he enjoyed metal and woodworking and made many swings that are in yards and on porches around Monroe County. He served as a Cub Scout Leader and enjoyed watching western movies and all sports on TV as well as listening to country music.
Of all his accomplishments in life, he was most proud of the family he helped raise and support. He will be dearly missed yet his family knows that he is healed and at peace.
Tommy is survived by his wife Gail, Amory; his son, Ty A. Ford, Los Angeles, CA; grandsons, Luke H Ford and Rory A. Ford, CA; Sister, Cindy Ford, Smithville, MS, and close friend, Robbin Hill.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Barbara Holloway and Glenda Jo Chism.
