Wren – Syvilla Jackson Rieves, 93, died on Thursday, September 16, 2010 at Gilmore Memorial Regional Medical Center. Born on August 25, 1917 in Tupelo, MS, she was a daughter of the late James Bonnie and Nellie Mae Hall Jackson. She was a graduate of Wren High School Class of 1936. She lived in Amory before moving to Wren in 1963 and for the past few years lived at River Place Nursing Center in Amory.
She married James Martin Rieves in 1936. Mrs. Rieves worked in apparel merchandising retiring after many years. She also worked for 27 years with World Book Educational Products. A member of First Baptist Church, she was a member of the 20th Century Club of Amory, Wren Culture Club (Wren Library Club) and served as Past-President of the Amory Frisco Club.
She is survived by her daughter, Nancy Rieves Payne and her husband William “Bitsy” Payne of Wren; her sister, Rebecca Young of Nettleton; two grandchildren, Glen Payne (Kay) of Little Rock, AR and Beth Payne of Wren; two great-grandchildren, Morgan and Rieves Payne. In addition to her parents and husband James Rieves, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Chesley Hulon and John Russell ‘Ted’ Jackson, husband, A. E. Collins.
A funeral service for Syvilla J. Rieves will be held at 1:00 PM, Saturday, at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Allen Simpson and Bro. Dennis Smithey officiating. Burial will be in Masonic Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Bradley Cheek, Bill Cheek, Eddie Wamble, Joe Rieves, Hal Rieves, Bruce Bartley. Honorary pallbearers will be Bob Bartley, Patrick Cheek, Kinley Jackson, David Jackson, and John C. Jackson.
Visitation will begin at 10 am and continue until time for the service to begin.
