Athens - Sylvia Owen Jeffreys, 85, passed away on February 28, 2014, at her residence following a lengthy illness. Born on January 7, 1929, in Tupelo, she was a daughter of the late Elmer and Georgia Page Owen.
Mrs. Jeffreys attended school in Amory and Becker and continued her education throughout her life. For nearly 65 years, she was married to Lonnie Jeffreys. Sylvia and Lonnie preached the Gospel and the Cross message of salvation for years, traveling many miles and having served many churches in Louisiana, Texas, and Mississippi. She was a wonderful Bible teacher and taught many studies on Scripture. They will bring many sheaves to the Master to lay at His feet. Always proclaiming the Gospel, Mrs. Jeffreys encouragement would be, “Come to the Savior; He is waiting for you.”
Survivors include a sister, Patsy Owen Sanders; two nieces; a nephew; and special caregivers, Philip and Lisa Moore. In addition to her parents; she was preceded in death by her husband on September 30, 2013; sisters, Helen Faye O. Clarkson and Opal O. Conwill; brother, Olmer Owen, Jr.; Mildred Hester; father-and-mother-in-law, Victor and Connie Jeffreys; sister-in-law, Lena Jeffreys; and Gilbert Hester.
A Committal Service will be held at 11 AM, Monday, March 3 at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Masonic Cemetery.
