Amory – Syble Nell Thompson, 82, passed away on Thursday, November 2, 2017, at Gilmore Memorial Hospital, Amory, MS. Born on January 22, 1935, in Wren, she was a daughter of the late Marcus Sid and Lois Townsend Johnson.
Syble graduated with the Becker Class of 1954. She went to work at a young age as a seamstress for Amory Garment. Later in life, she started and operated her own business, Home Charm. She was married to Bert Thompson for forty years and together they were blessed with a daughter. One who loved the Lord, she was a member of St. Andrews United Methodist Church, Amory.
A kind and nurturing woman, she loved to cook for family and she was a great mom and grandmother. Syble was famous for her apple dumplings. An active woman, she loved to spend cherished time with her grandsons. Syble worked great with her hands and was an excellent seamstress. In her free-time, she enjoyed watching all types of sports. Mississippi State was near and dear to her heart. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends. Syble leaves behind a legacy of wonderful memories which her family will hold onto forever.
She is survived by her daughter, Cecelia Jackson, Smithville; grandchildren, Tyler Jackson, Smithville, Kyle Jackson, Amory; great-grandchild, Madelyn Jackson; sisters, Doris Cowley, Amory, Ann Smith, Amory, Martha Johnson, Amory, Tommie Jean Bailey, Gattman; brother, Eddie Harris, Gattman; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, John Johnson, Marcus Sid “Bud” Johnson; sisters, Jane Smith, Carmen Dilworth, Grace Riggan, and Robert “Bob” Johnson.
Her Memorial Service will be held at 2 PM, Sunday, November 12, 2017, at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home, Amory with Rev. Brian Gordon officiating.
