Harrisonburg, VA - Sue Delle Young, 81, a resident of Virginia Mennonite Retirement Community in Harrisonburg, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February 2, 2016. Born on September 23, 1934, in Memphis, TN, she was the daughter of the late Harry Eldridge and Jewell May Stuart. Sue grew up with two brothers, Harry and Ted.
First meeting Charles when they were in 9th grade at Amory High School, they began dating when Charles was a junior at the University of Southern Mississippi. On December 16, 1956, Sue Delle and Charles were married in Amory, the beginning of a 58-year journey together. While Charles was in the military, they lived in many places, including the Republic of the Philippines for two years.
Having three sons, Chuck, Danny, and Kelly, family always came first with Sue, who was a full-time mother and homemaker. She faithfully loved and cared for their family. Her sons always knew she was there for them. In 1971, they made their home in Springfield, VA.
A very dedicated wife and mother, Sue always supported her children and grandchildren by faithfully attending their many events and activities. Together, Charles and she loved to take their grandchildren to Myrtle Beach for a week. As a family, they always looked forward to going back home to Amory twice a year.
For many of their 42 years as residents of Springfield, Charles and Sue were very active in First Baptist Church of Springfield. Sue's joyous Christian walk included devotion to family and growth of the faith community through AGLOW International, a Christian women's ministry. Sue loved to learn new things and to meet new people. Her hobbies included intensive Bible study, Christian music, cooking and sewing. She looked for an excuse to get the family together for meals, particularly on birthdays and holidays. A highlight of her life was a tour to the Holy Lands; she treasured special photos from that trip.
Sue Delle is survived by her loving husband and best friend, Charles; her brother, Theodore "Ted" Stuart of Hattiesburg; three sons, Charles "Chuck" and wife, Donna, of Springfield, VA; Daniel and wife, Debrah, of Harrisonburg, VA; and Kelly and husband, William, of Arlington, VA; grandchildren, Adam, Caitlin, Jessica, Kathryn, and Micah; great-grandchildren, Joshua and Alexis; and many beautiful, loving cousins, nieces, and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Sue was preceded in death by her brother, Harry Jackson Stuart, of Amory.
Her Memorial Service will be held at 1 PM, Wednesday, on April 6, 2016, at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home, Amory, with Pastor Dudley Nash officiating. A Committal Service with inurnment will follow in Harmony Church Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 12 PM until the service hour, Wednesday at the funeral home.
