Amory – Sue Kate Thompson, 89, died on Saturday, February 25, 2012, at Gilmore Memorial Regional Medical Center. Born on March 23, 1922, in Itawamba County, she was a daughter of the late Dred Sykes and Naomi Truelove Perkins.
Mrs. Thompson attended Itawamba County Schools. She had worked as a seamstress with Monroe Trousers and Glenn Manufacturing. Before retiring, Mrs. Thompson worked at Sunflower grocery store. She was Baptist. A wonderful mother, she enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. Mrs. Thompson loved animals and enjoyed flowers, gardening, canning, sewing, and quilting. She liked listening to Southern Gospel and Bluegrass music.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 AM, Wednesday, February 29 at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home with Bro. Van Dale Hudson officiating. Burial will follow in Pearce Chapel Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Paul Perkins, James Perkins, Tim Coker, Ethan Bean, Terry Collums, Toby Collums, Chad Collums, and Kevin Oliver.
Visitation will be from 5 - 8 PM, Tuesday at the funeral home.
She is survived by her sons, Billy Wiygul (Linda), Tupelo and Danny Wiygul (Mary), Birmingham, AL; sisters, Gloria Flye (Bob), Sterling, IL, and Janie Coker (Bonnie Joe), Smithville; brother, Nathan “Buster” Perkins (Jeanette), Fulton; grandchildren, Glen Wiygul (Renee), Bentonville, AR, Alisha Holmes (Steve), Louisville, TN, and Nicole Fowler (Donald), Corpus Christi, TX; 10 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Hermine Barnett, Amory and Patsy Horne, Smithville; and brothers-in-law, Tommy Wiygul, Amory and Wylie Wiygul, Fulton.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Glen Wiygul, Dudley Cowley, and Robert Thompson; sisters, Madie Gray, Avonelle Houdashelt, and Kathleen Franklin; brothers, Bonnie O’Neill, Leroy, Leon “Pete,” and Meredith Lee “Buck” Perkins; and special friend, Pepper.
