Lakeland, FL – Sue Watson Riley, 86, died on Monday, May 26, 2014, at Lakeland Regional Medical Center, Lakeland, FL. Born on October 28, 1927, in Mantachie, she was a daughter of the late Tremon C. and Ruby Cummings Watson.
Mrs. Riley was a graduate of Itawamba Agricultural High School, Class of 1945. She retired after several years of service as secretary for Amory Public Schools. Living out her Christian faith by “Loving one another as I have loved you,” Mrs. Riley was a United Methodist all her life. She enjoyed doing things with her husband, family, and friends, traveling, spending time with grandchildren and great-grandchildren, singing church hymns, cooking for family and friends, eating out, and going to ballgames. Always respectful and having a contagious smile, Mrs. Riley showed respect and love for everyone.
She is survived by her daughter, Betty Riley Duncan (Glen), Lakeland, FL; son, Rev. Mack Watson Riley (Jeannine), Marietta, GA; brother, Tremon Edwin Watson (Janice), Mantachie; grandchildren, Jim (Polly), John (April), and Patrick Riley; and Hannah Duncan and Mark Duncan (Elizabeth); great-grandchildren, Andrew, Jack, and Ella Riley; Leila, Matthew, and Leanna Kate Duncan; several nieces and nephews; and her fellow Sunday school class members, neighbors, and many friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Herman Riley
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 AM, Saturday, May 31 at St. Andrew’s United Methodist Church with Rev. Brian Gordon officiating. A Committal Service will be held at 3 PM in Mantachie Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Larry Palmer, Mike Riley, Eddie Riley, Johnny Leech, Jerry Riley, and John Edwin Watson. Honorary pallbearers will be Sue’s nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 9:30 – 10:45 AM, Saturday, May 31 at the church.
