Amory – Sue Swan Mills, 75, passed away on Wednesday, June 15, 2016, at Oak Tree Manor, Amory. Born on November 28, 1940, she was a daughter of Frances “Fran” Lilian Davis Swan and the late Howard Clay.
Sue attended Amory High School. The oldest of her family, she helped raise her family after their father died. After school, Sue worked as a waitress at Stanley’s Restaurant before going to work in the garment industry. She worked at Amory Garment, Glenn’s, and retired in 1982, from Seminole in Columbus. A hard-worker, Sue could work every position in the garment plants. Having a strong faith in God, Sue was a member of Mt. Zion Church in New Hope. She was passionate about her children and her adored grandchildren. She is fondly remembered for calling her children “my little chickens” and for always telling them, “I love you with all my heart”. Having a big heart, she loved animals, especially her two dogs, Bozo and Harley.
Loved by many, Sue never met a stranger and would do anything to help someone. A strong lady who was a spitfire and full of energy, she was a jokester who loved to have fun. Known for her contagious spirit, Sue enjoyed playing Spades with her card club. Her favorite music was Gospel and Country music, and her favorite artists were Conway Twitty, George Jones, Charlie Pride, Ace Cannon, and Elvis.
Survivors include her mother, Fran Swan; daughter, Teresa Clay and son, Mark (Julie) Clay of Amory; step-sons, Tim & Scotty Mills, MS; step-daughter-in-law, Chrissie Mills; sister, Jo Pearson (Richard), Wren; brothers, Reggie (Melody) Swan, Columbus; and Ronnie Swan, Amory; grandchildren, Clint Alan and Tyler Blake Clay; step-granddaughters, Maggie Mills Ward, Valerie Mills Stacy, Chanda Mills Grimes, Bona Katherine Mills; step-grandsons, Jessie Mills, Jefferson Cade Harrison, and Cody Scott Mills; several nieces and nephews; special friends, Kathy and Mike Smith; Mary Thomas; Ruby McCullough; Judge Kitchens; and her Oak Tree Family.
In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her husband, Wyatt Mills; an uncle who raised her as a daughter, Tommy Swan; and her step-son, Sonny Mills.
Her Funeral Service will be held at 10 AM, Saturday, June 18, 2016, at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home, Amory, with Dr. Allen Simpson and Bro. Ralph Windle officiating. Burial will follow in Haughton Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Tyler and Clint Clay; Jessie Mills, Mike Smith, and Van Hoots. Honorary pallbearers will be Alan Clay, Tim Hudson, and Jimmy Dale Mills.
