Amory – Steve Sloan, 50, died on Sunday, March 27, 2011, at Baptist Memorial Hospital, Columbus. Born on December 4, 1960, in Okolona, he was a son of Mae Mixon Shields and the late George Elbert Sloan.
Steve attended Coleman High School in Greenville. While in Hunt, TX, he worked as an LPN at LaHacienda Drug and Alcohol Treatment Center. He was Baptist. Having a great sense of humor, Steve treasured the time spent with his family, especially fishing with his grandchildren. He was a diehard University of Alabama football fan. Steve loved to fish and hunt, watch NASCAR and loved listening to Country music.
He is survived by his daughters, Stephanie (Jamie) Guyton, Amory and Stacey Sloan, Kerrville, TX; mother, Mae M. Shields, Amory; grandchildren, Reid, Makayla and Lily Grace Guyton; sisters, Dana Shields Lockhart, Sonya Shields Landreth and Dianne Adams, Amory, Leigh Chaney Smith, Smithville and Frankie Phillips, Amory; brothers, Terry Sloan, Amory, Frankie Sloan, Blanco, TX, Danny Shields, Amory and Wesley Shields, Amory; several nieces and nephews; special friend, Leonard Williams, Amory; and his dog, Chief. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his step-father, Frank B. Shields and brothers, Paul and Little Frank Chaney Shields.
A private funeral service will be held at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home, Amory with Bro. Chuck Moffett officiating. Burial will be in Durrett Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jamie Guyton, John Lockhart, Chris Sloan, Ryan Landreth, and Danny and Brian Shields. Honorary pallbearer will be Leonard Williams.
