Amory – Sidney E. Howell, 69, died on Friday, February 17, 2012, at NMMC, Tupelo. Born on January 5, 1943, in Amory, he was a son of the late Roy and Ona Faye Herndon Ausbon.
Sidney was a graduate of Amory High School, Class of 1961 and attended IJC. For 40 years, he was employed with NESCO, formerly Ausbon Supply. A kind and gentle man, Sidney was a member of Amory Church of Christ. Always helping and thinking of others, he would go the extra mile in caring for people. Having a close-knit family, Sidney enjoyed eating out, going to concerts, and spending time with his family, especially his grandson. He enjoyed listening to Country music and was fond of his Dachshunds.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1 PM, Sunday, February 19 at Amory Church of Christ with Mr. Philip Hathcock officiating. Burial will follow in Haughton Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Keith Nash, Rick Ballard, Jimmy and Phillip Sullivan, Jason Minch, and Keith Sanders. Honorary pallbearers will be NESCO associates.
Visitation will be from 5 – 8 PM, Saturday at the funeral home. Mr. Howell will lie-in-state at the church on Sunday from Noon until the service hour.
He is survived by his son, David Howell (Tammy), Amory; sisters, Martha Wilkes and Jan Minch (Dennis), of Amory; grandson, John Michael Howell; nieces and nephews, Melissa Harper, Michele James, Ashley Minch and Jason Minch; and special friends, Joe Fowler, Tangy Caldwell, and his NESCO family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 38 years, Lucy Howell, and a niece, Meredith Minch.
