Shirley Wynelle “Nell” Brown
Amory— Shirley Wynelle “Nell” Brown, 82, passed away on Tuesday, September 25, 2018, at Diversicare. She was born in Smithville on November 7, 1935 to Ollie Elmo and Dora Inez Noe Sullivan.
Nell graduated from Bartlett High School in Memphis, TN, where she was a cheerleader and in many different school organizations. Upon graduation, she married her sweet heart, Thomas “Tom” Brown on September 8, 1953 and they were blessed with 3 children.
Nell spent much of her adult life in Vermilion, OH, where she was a member of Lakeview Baptist Church before returning to Amory in 1981. During her life, she worked in the Radiology Department at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis, but most of her time was spent raising her 3 children and volunteering at her church. Upon returning to Amory, she owned and operated “The Depot” located inside the Park Hotel on Main Street.
Nell loved the Lord and she was a member of Meadowood Baptist Church. She was a giving and faithful servant for the Lord. She touched many lives through teaching and witnessing the Gospel to others. Nell always strived to bring her family closer to God and took every opportunity to teach a life learning lesson. She enjoyed church activities, listening to American Family Radio and was a supporter of Moody Bible Institute.
In her free time, she enjoyed painting, wire crafting jewelry and spending time with her family, which included many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her memories will live on in those that knew and loved her.
Nell is survived by her daughters, Debbie Pounds (Johnny), Terrye Rice, both of Amory; son, David Brown (Tammy), Amory; grandchildren, Nathan Brown, Jon Pounds, Rachel Pounds, Jacob Pounds (Courtney), Andy Rice (Blair), Becky Pounds, Cody Brown, Kara Brown, Kayla Harper (Marshall), Connor Brown; great-grandchildren, Marty Joe Fowlkes, Cayleigh Beth Pounds, Magnolia Joon Hinds, Chloe Harper Rice, Carter Bowen Rice, Caelynne Hope Oliver, Lylah Marie Harper, Marshall Logan Harper; one special great grandchild on the way; brother, Steve Sullivan (Elizabeth), Becker; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; and special friend, Barbara Love.
In addition to her parents, Nell was preceded in death by her loving husband, Tom; baby brother, Eddie Oliver Sullivan.
A funeral service will be held at 1 PM Friday, September 28, 2018, at E.E. Pickle Funeral Home with Dr. Lloyd Sweatt officiating. A private family graveside service will follow at New Hope Cemetery. Pallbearers will include Andy Rice, Cody Brown, Marshall Harper, Jacob Pounds, Marty Fowlkes, Connor Brown, Nathan Brown and Jon Pounds.
