Amory – Shirley Jeanette Williams Plunkett, 73, passed away on Saturday, December 2, 2017, at Sanctuary Hospice in Tupelo. Born on November 7, 1944, on Doty Farm in Shannon, she was a daughter of the late Ruble and Margrean Miles Williams.
Shirley attended school at Plantersville and Okolona. She then began her career in the garment industry as a button-holer at Longnecker. A faithful member of People’s Tabernacle, Sulligent, she enjoyed going to church as often as she could. Shirley was a kind-hearted and loving lady who was always smiling. She lifted up those around her in her good nature and was described as an all-around good lady. She met her soulmate, Robert Plunkett, and they were happily married on April 20, 1963.
Shirley loved her family. In her free time, she enjoyed reading her bible and listening to Old Country music artists like Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard, and Loretta Lynn. Shirley also loved fishing and going camping. She could also be found watching Western movies.
Shirley had a heart of gold and always shared the love of Christ with anyone she met. The most important things in her life were her family and her health. A sweet lady, she will always be remembered for her kindness. Shirley’s memory will be cherished by her loved ones for years to come.
She is survived by her nieces, Brenda Brazil, Mary Cash, Tammy Plunkett, Kathy Poteet, and Robin White; nephews, Donald Plunkett, Rodney Wayne Williams, Dennis Sanders, Jerry Sanders; several great-nieces; cousins, Sam and Jim Williams; special friends, Melissa and Tim Smith.
In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by her loving husband, Robert Plunkett; sisters, Alene Dawkins, Jonell Shoemake; brothers, Wayne and Adrian Allen Williams.
Her Funeral Service will be held at 2:30PM Wednesday, December 6, 2017, at E.E. Pickle Funeral Home, with Bro. Phillip Blaylock officiating. Burial will follow at Beeks Cemetery in Athens. Pallbearers will be Tim Smith, Sam Williams, Jim Williams, Michael Stanford, Pervy Williams and Dewy Oliver.
Visitation will be from 5-7PM, Tuesday, at the funeral home.
