Shirley Pearce was born to Elwyn and Shaler Sims on March 29th, 1940, on a homestead in Amory, MS. She passed away March 21st, 2017, at Baptist Memorial Hospital CCU after an extended illness.
Shirley attended high school at Hatley, where she was voted most beautiful, and graduated in 1958.
On June 7th, 1958, after walking to the local preacher’s house, she married the love of her life, the late J.B. Pearce. Together they raised their daughters, Cynthia Leigh and Kimberly and enjoyed forty years of a loving marriage.
Shirley truly lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures: chatting with friends on the phone, enjoying search a word puzzles, reading, sending cards, working in her yard, making her famous apple dumplings for everyone to fight over, attending church at Smithville Church of Christ, and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren (Susan, Shannon, Stacie) and great grandchildren (James Allen, Lynlee, and a soon-to-be great-granddaughter, Scarlett.)
Shirley had an uncanny ability to “tell it like it was” in a way that left those around her laughing in admiration and wonder. Her beautiful smile and her loving way of reaching out to those around her, never forgetting a birthday, anniversary, or a loved one in need, made her a cherished friend to all that knew her.
She is survived by her daughters, Cynthia Covington (David) and Kimberly; her brother Shelby Sims; her granddaughters, Susan Fowler (Danny), Shannon Caraway (Daniel), Stacie Bowman (Josh); and great grandchildren James Allen Caraway, Lynlee Fowler, and Scarlett Caraway. Family, friends, and others whose lives Shirley touched are invited to E. E. Pickle Funeral Home to reminisce, grieve, support each other, and of course, just chat, in true Shirley Pearce fashion.
Her funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM, Thursday, March 23, 2017 at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home, Amory, with Mr. Jeff Horton officiating. Burial will follow in New Hope Cemetery, Hatley.
