Amory – Shirley Fowlkes Parham, 75, died on Saturday, April 16, 2011, at Baptist Memorial Hospital, Columbus. Born on November 24, 1935, in Monroe County, she was a daughter of the late Ray and Lois Fowlkes.
Shirley was a graduate of Amory High School, Class of 1953. In 1999, she retired from Fowlkes Contracting, Inc. Shirley was a member of Amory Church of Christ. To her family, she was their best friend, a wonderful mother and "Mimi," and a great cook. Shirley loved life and her family. She enjoyed boating; all MSU sports; watching her grandkids play sports; planning trips with her husband, especially to Branson; and taking her grandchildren on cross country road trip adventures ("making memories").
She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Billy Parham, Amory; a daughter, LeeAnn Parham (Art) Mordecai, Madison; son, Barry Lynn (Torri) Parham, Amory; brother, Floyd Wayne (Carolyn) Fowlkes, Amory; grandchildren, Michael Parham Mordecai and Matthew Peyton Mordecai, Madison; Garrett Wright Parham and Duston Pickle, Amory; and nieces and nephews, Laura Leigh Fowlkes, Lisa Kay Fowlkes Johnson, Lonnie Williams, David Fowlkes, Matt Fowlkes, Ray Parham, Gregg Parham, Alan Loden and Kelby Loden. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Philip Wayne Parham.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 3 PM, Wednesday, April 20 at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home, Amory, with Mr. Philip Hathcock officiating. Burial will follow in Haughton Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Lonnie Williams, David Fowlkes, Matthew Fowlkes, Michael Simpson, Gregg Parham, Ray Parham, Steve Fowlkes, Mike Fowlkes, and Doug Fowlkes. Honorary pallbearers will be Ricky Culver, Alan Loden, Kelby Loden and Tim Fowlkes.
Visitation will be from 1 PM until the service hour on Wednesday.
Memorials may be given to Amory Church of Christ, P. O. Box 371, Amory, MS 38821.
