Aberdeen - Shirley Jean Cantrell Martin, 79, passed away on June 13, 2016 at Merit Heath Gilmore Memorial Hospital. She was a daughter of the late John Cantrell and Lottie Mae Strawbridge Cantrell.
Shirley attended Amory Schools and worked in the garment industry, was a housecleaner, and daycare worker. Shirley loved to fish, coloring, painting and read her Bible. In her spare time, she loved to listen to gospel music, the “oldies” from the past, and country music. Having served many children, she was passionate about St. Jude Children’s research hospital. Her sister, Jewel was her best friend. A Christian lady, she was a faithful member of the Aberdeen First Pentecostal Church. Shirley loved her grandchildren and her church first and foremost. Above all her family and the Lord guided her through her life.
Survivors include daughters, Deborah Walk (Tom), Salt Lake City, Utah; Tracy Begor (James), Marianna, Fl; sons: Jay Martin (Donna), Aberdeen; Chris Martin, Birmingham, Al; sister: Jewel Lyle (Dickie), Wren, MS; grandchildren: Misty Martin, Katie Sims (Jason), Allen Martin (Karen), Robert Hill (Tona), Marcus Patterson, Michelle Patterson; great-grandchildren: Gabby and Kylee Martin, Nicoletta and Dimitri Hill, and a host of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Dorsey Martin whom she married on July 31, 1955.
A Celebration of Life service will be on Thursday, 2PM, at E.E. Pickle Funeral Home, Amory with Bro Allen Martin officiating. Burial will be in Liberty Cemetery, Nettleton. Pallbearers will be: Chris and Allen Martin, Robert Hill, Tom Walk, Ronald Welch and Richard Williams. Visitation will be Wednesday, June 15, 2016 from 5 – 8 PM.
