Shirley Kennedy Parchman

Amory – Shirley Kennedy Parchman, 86, met her Savior face to face on Friday, November 11, 2022. She was born on January 16, 1936, in Amory to the late Buck Hannon and Melba Beck Kennedy.

Shirley grew up in Monroe County, MS, and she graduated from Amory High School in 1954. A driven woman who always strived to better herself, she went back to school twenty years later. She graduated from MS College of Women in 1974, obtaining a Nursing Degree. She married her best friend, Charles Thomas “Peanut” Parchman and together they were blessed with three sons. Shirley was a devoted wife, nurturing mother and a wonderful grandma.

She worked for over 30 years at Gilmore Memorial Hospital as a Registered Nurse. Shirley cared for her patients and made many friends at the Hospital through the years. In her free time, she liked to read a good book and write stories for Tom Bigbee Country Magazine. In both the magazine and in person, she loved to pass on the old stories of her family and community, ensuring the memories lived on for generations. She was a member of Greenbrier United Methodist Church, Becker, Mississippi.

Shirley will be missed dearly by her family, yet they know that she had a sweet reunion with her husband and sons in Heaven. She touched so many lives during her time here on earth and the stories of her life will live on in the minds of those who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her son, Jim Parchman (Jolayne); daughter-in-law, Libby Parchman Walker (Rick); grandchildren, Zach Parchman(Jordan), Abigail Parchman Maddux (Taylor), Hannah Parchman Edwards (Drew), and Isaac Parchman; great-grandchildren, Mary Menton Maddux, Kennedy Maddux, Henley Edwards, and James Edwards; beloved niece, Sara Jones.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Charles Parchman; sons, Ike Thomas “Tommy” Parchman and Charles Kennedy “Kenny” Parchman; brother, Buck “Sonny” Kennedy; sisters, LaReta Hill Jones and Juanita Smithson Visner.
