Hatley – Shirley Marie Collier, 75, passed away on Monday, May 4, 2020, at Diversicare Nursing Center, Amory, Mississippi. Born on August 15, 1944, in Monroe County, she was the daughter of the late Levi and Mildred Phillips.
Shirley grew up in Monroe County and graduated from Amory High School. She furthered her education and attended school at ICC where she obtained an LPN certification. She worked in the healthcare industry for over 20 years and she worked at Riverplace Nursing Center until her retirement. She had a servant heart and she believed in taking care of those who could not take care of themselves.
Shirley believed in God and was a member of the Church of God’s Chosen ministries. She was blessed by God with two sons, whom she loved dearly. She was happily married to her best friend, William Joseph “Jo” Collier, and they shared many special memories. Her family says she was a wonderful and caring woman. In her free time, she liked to listen to country music, such as “Just a Good Ole Rebel”. She was member of the League of the South and exploring the outdoors was one of her favorite things to do. She especially liked camping, canoeing, and she also liked dancing with Jo.
All the wonderful memories will be cherished by her family and friends forever. Her love will live on in their hearts and they will miss her dearly.
Shirley is survived by her husband, Jo Collier, Beaverton, AL; son, Roy Hathcock (Michelle), Amory; grandchildren, Austin and Kaitlyn Hathcock, Amory; cousins, Kay Miller and Marilyn Miller. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Eugene Hathcock.
A graveside funeral service will be held on Tuesday, May 4, 2020, at Hatley Cemetery with Mr. Derek Maranto officiating. A private family gathering will take place prior to the service at the funeral home in Amory. Honorary Pallbearers will be Johnny Northington, Joel Price, and David Lowery.
